Rogério Lourenço's options for the classic
The red-black coach hopes to count on Correa and David, but has a Plan B if that doesn't happen.
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inCoach Rogério Lourenço has been testing several options for his Flamengo team's lineup against Botafogo next Wednesday (July 14.07), in Flamengo's return to the Brasileirão after the World Cup break. Among the coach's main doubts are David and Correa. The defender has not yet extended his contract with the Rubro-Negro, and Correa is waiting for a document clearing him to play.
The coach has been working with both players as starters, forming a team with Marcelo Lomba, Leo Moura, David, Ronaldo Angelim, and Juan; Willians, Correa, Kleberson, and Petkovic; Vinicius Pacheco and Diego Maurício. But he guarantees he has an option if both are unable to play in the derby.
"I'm not sure, but I've heard from the board that their documentation is well underway and there's a very high probability they'll play on Wednesday. I also have a Plan B in place, in case there's no possibility of David and Correa not playing and we just have to wait," he said.
Rogério also spoke about the mood within the group following goalkeeper Bruno's departure. He said the group clearly felt the loss of their teammate, but there's no way the group will let itself get discouraged and let this affect the team on the field.
"The conversations are ongoing, especially because we're following the events. Some have a close friendship, a four-year relationship at the club, and there's no way not to make changes, but life goes on. We have to work tomorrow; we're making our debut in the Brazilian league, and these players here have the responsibility of showing that Flamengo has quality, competent professionals who work to develop people. The professional passes, and the citizen continues. They have to realize that," he added.
This Saturday (10.07), Flamengo will play a training match against Olaria, at 15 pm, in Gávea. It will be the last test before the team's return to the Brasileirão.
