Special attention to Petkovic

After speaking with the entire Flamengo squad to introduce himself and discuss his work methodology, the new Flamengo coach, Silas, spoke privately with some of the group's most experienced players. One of them was Serbian midfielder Petkovic. At 38, Petkovic is the oldest player on the squad and is considered a role model on and off the field.
Silas, who also played until he was 38, knows the physical demands of a player in these conditions. So he spoke with Petkovic about it and explained that he wants to have the number 10 flying on the field whenever possible.
"I went through the same situation. I played until I was 38, and obviously, it's more the job of the physical and physiology department than the coach. We need to have this player in good shape for the game. He already knows the shortcuts. It was a conversation along those lines. There's no point in having Pet tearing it up in training and feeling the wear and tear in the game. It's better to have him at full strength in the games. I talked to him right away because I saw the game (against Guarani), he ran a lot, as did Renato, who is reconditioning. He's the oldest of the bunch, and we'll need him a lot," he said.
And if the work is more focused on the physical department, there's nothing better than hearing from new coach Emerson Buck about the matter. He believes it's still too early to analyze the player's situation. However, based on what he's been told, Pet could be a significant help to Flamengo this season.
"I don't know Petkovic personally or professionally, but I've been told that he really enjoys training, which is good. It's a case that needs to be analyzed, too, especially because of his age, but he can only be evaluated with more time. He's a quality player who's important to the group and will be analyzed by us," he added.
