A Flamengo athlete ended up dying as a result of a landslide, in Morro do Castro, in Niterói, Metropolitan Region of Rio. Felipe Santos da Silva, who played futsal and would have turned 18 this Saturday (10.04), died last Tuesday (06.04), along with his father, stepmother and sister. The club only found out about the incident this Friday (09.04), since the athlete's category is on recess.
According to Flamengo's futsal coordinator, Luiz Antonio, the players themselves, friends of Felipe, warned Flamengo about the disaster.
"Many of the athletes who play here are from that region. They were the ones who warned us. They said his house had collapsed. We hadn't had any contact with Felipe, as he hadn't yet played in 2010. The under-20 category is on hiatus. I can say he was promising and had a lot of physical strength," said Luiz Antonio.
Regardless of the death of a Flamengo player, Flamengo had already launched a campaign to collect donations for the victims of the Rio de Janeiro landslides. Donations are being accepted at the club's headquarters in Gávea, at the main entrance, across from the Fla Concept store.

On Wednesday (08.04), another Flamengo fan passed away. Former striker Mário Braga Gadelha, known as Babá, who played 308 times for Flamengo between 1954 and 1962, suffered a cardiac arrest. In addition to his great football and the titles he won, Babá ended his career without having been sent off once.
