Athletes participate in physical evaluation at the training center.
The test is conducted with runs that gradually increase in speed in order to observe each player's endurance.

The professionals from the Flamengo Performance Excellence Center (CEP FLA) held a physical assessment with the athletes this Thursday (28), at Field 2 of the George Helal Training Center. The squad performed runs with a gradual increase in speed and the times were individually timed in order to assess the resistance of each player to the proposed exercise.
Daniel Gonçalves, scientific coordinator of CEP FLA, explained how the activity is carried out.
"It's an assessment that we call a 'retest,' meaning a second evaluation to see the athletes' level of development throughout the season. This is an assessment of the cardiorespiratory system. We measure the athletes' VO2 max, which is directly related to the amount of oxygen taken from the air and transported from the lungs to the muscles. The higher the soccer player's VO2 level, the better their physical performance on the field in terms of distances covered and high-intensity actions on the playing field," he said.

The scientific coordinator also spoke about the planning and importance of this type of evaluation.
"These measures are part of an annual plan, both individual and collective. And this assessment is also of great importance for monitoring training loads, since we have real-time training controls. We also rely on this parameter to know exactly what the athletes are performing on the field," he concluded.
Felipe Olive, physiologist from the physical department, recalls that a test similar to this Thursday's (28) was carried out in the pre-season.
"We did a similar assessment at the beginning of the season and agreed with Professor Muricy and Professor Carlito that before the Brazilian Championship we could reassess, to see the level of aerobic conditioning that the athletes had gained during that period. We took advantage of it and used it as a warm-up before the start of training, taking advantage of the assessment methodology," explained Olive, who added.
"Normally we do this test in the pre-season and 'off-season' to monitor their progress. If we have a break in the middle of the Brazilian Championship, we can do it again before training to monitor their progress curve," he concluded.
The work of these professionals is fundamental to the physical development of the team, with the goal of improving the squad's preparation for a longer and more demanding competition, such as the Brazilian Championship. The beloved team debuts in the competition on Saturday, May 14th, against Sport Club Recife.
