The immense Red-Black Nation was able to vote for the year's best players via Twitter. The election, hosted by the club's official microblog account, featured several categories for fans to choose from: best photo, video, most exciting victory, most beautiful goal, and the season's star.

Best video
The criteria used to choose the best video was simple: the four most liked videos on FLA TV, Mengão's YouTube channel, were the candidates. A foul challenge between the athletes at the training center, AeroFla, the team's boarding before the game against Palmeiras, behind-the-scenes footage of Diego's debut against Grêmio, and the victory against Atlético-PR in the Brasileirão were all voted for by the red-and-black team. AeroFla won with 78% of the vote.
Best photo
Flamengo fans are already accustomed to the beautiful shots taken by the club's official photographer, Gilvan de Souza. The four photos submitted for voting were chosen by the photographer himself and the club's communications team. The photo chosen by the Nation as the most beautiful of 2016 was from the match against Coritiba at Maracanã. Diego's celebration secured 53% of the votes.

The vote for the goal of the year was tight. The four candidates were: Guerrero, against Boavista, in the State Championship opener; Jorge, against Ponte Preta, in Zé Ricardo's debut; Mancuello, with a backheel, against Atlético-PR; and Jorge again, against Figueirense, in the Copa Sudamericana. With 43% of the vote, the left-back took the award with his stunning goal against the Santa Catarina team in the continental competition.
Most exciting victory
Mengão won many games in 2016, always thrilling for fans. However, some comebacks were unforgettable. The two against Ponte Preta in the Brasileirão, Cruzeiro in the final stretch of the competition, and Figueirense in the Copa Sudamericana. With 62% of the vote, the comeback against the Minas Gerais team, with a goal from Mancuello in the final moments, took the prize.

The final was between Diego and Willian Arão. The number 35 won and took the award for Flamengo's best player of the season with 78% of the votes.
