The halftime talk and Vanderlei Luxemburgo's substitutions during the second half were crucial for Flamengo in Sunday's derby against Vasco at the Engenhão stadium. And the Flamengo players acknowledge the good work done by the coach, who remains undefeated in his third stint at Gávea, with two wins and two draws.
Renato, who scored Flamengo's goal, believes the team proved its true worth in the second half, when it returned motivated to make up for the setback suffered in the first 45 minutes, driven by Vanderlei.
"In the second half, with Vanderlei's substitution in the locker room, we improved a lot. I'm happy with this improvement. The next game is difficult, against Corinthians. And we have to try to improve even more," said the player, who noted that the pitch didn't make things much easier for the team.
"Our team lacked patience in the first half. Maybe because of the pitch. I myself made mistakes in passing because of that. But I think we played better against Inter than today. In a derby, any mistake you make, the opponent can score," he explained.
The number 11 player valued the result, achieved at the end of the game, and also pointed out that the goal conceded was due to an unfortunate defensive error.
"It ended up being an isolated incident. We created chances, we went for the game, we had opportunities, and they found the goal in that play. The ball hit our defenders, the post, and bounced back to their player. But patience. The important thing is to highlight our desire to recover the result in the second half," he concluded.
