Check out the main points of the conversation:
Serene President
I believe it's my duty to act calmly and never lose my cool. After all, I'm not acting for my own benefit, but for the benefit of the Red-Black Nation. It's like a public office; there's no reason to act emotionally with so much at stake. It's my duty to work calmly.
Club's financial situation
This won't stop us from strengthening the team. In 2015, we're already in a better situation than in the past, and Flamengo is in the process of financial recovery, which will allow us to become increasingly comfortable. We're not 100% comfortable yet, but we can already make an investment. We made the last, emblematic one, which was the signing of Guerrero, and we're in the process of bringing in more players to fill some gaps in the team, with the approval of the new coaching staff.
Speculation and hiring
We calm our fans with concrete news, not speculation. It's clear that to finalize a deal, you have to sound out several athletes to close one. There's no point in saying that Flamengo is sounding out so-and-so, because that creates false expectations. It's fair for fans to dream, but we can't entertain dreams that aren't at least concrete. Robinho, Ganso—none of this information leaked from our side. There was contact, but if we understand that contact won't materialize, won't flow into real news, there's no reason to deceive the fans. It's much better for the fans to have concrete news than to dream. That's our way of doing things. Guerrero's signing, for example, was made public on our official website. That's how we respect our fans.
Strengthen the cast
We're looking for more than one player; we're looking for quality, experience, and determination. We're looking for these to add to our squad, which, in terms of quality, is an extremely qualified squad. Although some people use this term as a pejorative or mocking term, Flamengo's squad is qualified. It still requires some adjustments to fill some gaps, and then you'll certainly see Flamengo's recovery process, and the fans will cheer.
Christopher Borges
Cristóvão's arrival was already part of a project that will allow us to overcome this difficult situation. We will have a full week of training for the first time since Cristóvão's arrival. I think the team has already shown improvement since Cristóvão took over, not only in terms of willingness and commitment, but also in terms of positioning.
Flamengo fans
Last year, we finished last, and it was the fans who supported us to get out of there. I have no doubt that on Saturday, the fans will support us to get out of this situation. That's why Flamengo is great: because of the fans. It doesn't matter if it's Chapecoense or Barcelona, Flamengo must always enter the field wanting to win; that's what the fans want. In the worst moments, the fans, who are our greatest asset, are crucial in helping us overcome our crises.
As Eduardo Bandeira de Mello said, Flamengo's fans are the club's greatest asset, and showing their support in difficult times can help Flamengo return to glory. Flamengo faces Chapecoense this Saturday (June 06.06), and every bit of support from the stands makes a difference. Mobilization has already begun on social media with the hashtag #VemProMaracaNação.
