Bandeira de Mello: "We will make reinforcements possible one step at a time"

President reiterates that Guerrero's signings and possible reinforcements for the rest of the season respect the austerity policy

By - in
On Wednesday night (10.06), Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello was the guest on the 'Boa Noite Fox' program on the Fox Sports channel. Interviewed by Benjamin Back, Paulo Vinícius Coelho and Mário Sérgio, the director spoke about several subjects, such as reinforcements, club management and the Maracanã consortium.

Check out the highlights of the chat:

"We're working towards that, within the austerity policy you're seeing at Flamengo. We have to secure reinforcements one step at a time, but we can certainly dream of a number 10. The club's situation is still far from comfortable. We took over in 2013 in a chaotic situation, and by working responsibly, we're improving. The years to come will be even better."

Guerrero
- We signed Guerrero and can invest in one or two more players, but with our feet on the ground. Anyone who wants to know where the money comes from can check Flamengo's accounts, which are completely transparent and available to everyone. Including we won the financial transparency award for two years in a rowThe situation is far from what Flamengo fans deserve, but we'll get there. The biggest impact of Guerrero's arrival will be when he finally dons the Sacred Mantle. As planned, we'll pay every penny.

Decision-making
Flamengo's management, in all areas of activity, is completely professional. We have extremely successful vice presidents, who function as a board of directors, demanding results and helping us make decisions. There's no reason not to employ so many good people in this strategic area.

Football Council
"Wrobel remains a member of the football management committee. I spoke with him today. He's still willing to help us, but he won't be fully dedicated. In addition to the board that participates in football decisions, such as signings, he himself has already created all the conditions for our football director, Rodrigo Caetano, to take care of everything, and I count on his support. The relationship between Wrobel and Caetano has always been excellent."

Negotiation with Emerson
- Sheik is a good possibility, we tried to make it viable, but we only announce signings after everything is agreed, out of respect for the fans, without fake news.

Fight for the Libertadores
"Of course we're working to reach the Libertadores. But if that doesn't happen, Flamengo will survive and work like never before to try again next year."

Luxembourg
"Nobody at the club has anything against Vanderlei; we respect his work immensely. His dismissal was a consensual decision by the football management committee."

Cristóvão's relationship with Jayme
"Cristóvão has already praised Jayme, saying he receives a lot of help from him. We understand he's important in his position; he knows the youth teams and the club."

Pressure for results
"The fans' affection for me is impressive, but even more so because fans from the poorest segments of the population understand that it's necessary to restore the club's credibility and rebuild Flamengo on solid foundations. Of course, the fans want to see results on the field. I want to see them too; I'm a fan. Flamengo will improve, and the fans will be able to celebrate the fruits of the austerity policy."

Flamengo Stadium
"There's a possibility of building a stadium. We're evaluating several alternatives, and this includes reviewing our agreements with Maracanã. If the conditions are favorable, we could have a smaller stadium in Gávea, parallel to Maracanã, for smaller-scale games. If we can't make Maracanã viable, we'll have to move on to building a medium- to large-sized stadium. This 45- to 50-seat stadium would be very unlikely to be in Gávea; we'd have to find a new location. We're evaluating all possible options."

Relationship with Maracanã
"Currently, the equation of our agreement with Maracanã doesn't serve us well. We can build a solution together that pleases everyone and enhances the venue's economic development. It's a stadium that is close to the hearts of Rio residents, and mine too, having been a regular since I was a child."

Club debt
"It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment when all this debt began. I'm sure most of Flamengo's presidents were well-intentioned. Every president has their successes and mistakes. I'm very hopeful and practically certain that the austerity movement is here to stay. The directors who are with us now in the administration are great Flamengo fans, extremely successful, and they bring their professional success stories to Flamengo, so we can work together to recover the club. I'm sure the younger ones coming in will do even better. They're interested in the club's life, in being Flamengo members, and they participate. We're entering a virtuous cycle."

TV Quotas
- The distribution of TV quota resources will always be divided according to the attractiveness of the show.

Campeonato Carioca
"Flamengo will not compete in a state championship with the same format and power structure as in 2015. Our split with FFERJ, under current conditions, is irreversible. We are discussing solutions, and Fluminense is on our side. We have to consider the legal aspects; it involves many interests."

Samir
"There's nothing concrete about Samir's departure. He's currently a Flamengo player, but we'll always listen to offers for our players. This doesn't mean that if they offer the fine, he'll leave."
