In a direct confrontation for the first position in the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo went to Independência and beat Atlético-MG 1-0, on Saturday night (26). After a great run, Vinicius Jr passed to Everton Ribeiro to score the goal that returned the lead to Mais Querido. In a press conference after the match, interim coach Mauricio Barbieri spoke to the press and analyzed the team's performance after a series of games.
“We played 13 games in the last 42 days; a series of trips. We returned to Rio on Thursday and traveled on Friday. A very important victory, even though we didn't play the game we expected. Credit also to Atlético-MG. We made some adjustments. An important victory for the lead,” commented Barbieri.
Barbieri concluded by praising tonight's victory in light of the difficulty of the opponent.
“A very difficult game. Flamengo hadn't beaten Atlético-MG at Horto in 65 years. We have to value this victory. A fundamental victory. Very difficult. Atlético had a 100% home record. We are very satisfied with the result. But we need alternatives to change the game. The pressure is immense. We lost players like Everton and Guerrero,” said the interim coach.
The next match for Mais Querido will be next Thursday (31), against Bahia, at 16 pm, for the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship. Tickets are on sale. Secure your entry by clicking here.
