In good spirits, Pet isn't thinking about helping Fluminense.
Serbian player says victory against Corinthians is important for Flamengo's aspirations in the championship.
By From the official website team - inFlamengo's opponent this Wednesday at Engenhão is Corinthians, one of the contenders for the 2010 Brazilian Championship title. And in the fight with the São Paulo team is another of Flamengo's rivals, Fluminense. Therefore, it's inevitable to hear that Flamengo will help Fluminense if they defeat Corinthians. But for the experienced Serbian midfielder, Dejan Petkovic, that shouldn't be the thinking.
\According to him, the only result that matters to Flamengo is victory, regardless of what benefit that might bring to other teams in the standings. And he also points out that a stumble by Corinthians only makes things easier for Fluminense if the team from Laranjeiras also does its part.
\"Many teams that are at the top have made mistakes during the championship. One game doesn't change much. There's still a lot to play for. This game helps Flamengo. That's the only thing that matters. We're in a complicated, undesirable situation and we have to face it realistically," he said.
\In a lighthearted manner, Petkovic further explained that the positive impact a coaching change can have on a team, which has already yielded results at Flamengo, was good for Corinthians. However, he hopes that this impact was limited to the derby against Palmeiras in the final round.
\"Tite's debut has already passed. Against Palmeiras, he was already on the bench. So, now they can lose (laughs)," he concluded.
