Two-time Copa do Brasil winner completes ten years
In 2006, Mais Querido beat Vasco in both final matches with goals from Obina, Luizão and Juan

The red-and-black team is a winner by nature. There are few days of the year when those who are part of the Biggest Fanbase in the World go by without celebrating the memory of some title. This Tuesday (26), a remarkable national achievement of the club completes ten years: the 2006 Copa do Brasil.
On July 26th of that year, Flamengo and Vasco faced off in the second leg of the final. And, as has been the case in finals since 1988, Vasco defeated their rivals and lifted the trophy. A goal from left-back Juan, with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, was enough to seal the victory. Relive:

A week earlier, Flamengo had already secured the title. Obina scored a stunning goal, Luizão completed the scoring, and Flamengo finished the first leg, in front of a packed Maracanã stadium, winning 2-0.
Flamengo's path to the title wasn't easy. They achieved some impressive victories, but they faced traditional rivals and had to fight for every result.
Against ASA, in the first round, there were scares. Flamengo fell behind in both matches. In the first, Ronaldo Angelim equalized, and the score ended 1-1. In the second round, Renato Silva and Horacio Peralta scored the goals that took Flamengo to the next round.
In the next stage, another rival from the Northeast: ABC, from Natal. Under the command of Waldemar Lemos, Flamengo secured a narrow victory at Frasqueirão: 1-0, with a goal by Ronaldo Angelim. In the return leg, Flamengo prevailed. Renato (2), El Tígre Ramírez, and Luizão scored, making the score 4-0.
The 1978 Brazilian champions were the opponents in the next round. Flamengo had their best result in the competition in the first leg against Guarani. The Maracanã saw Luizão, Léo Moura, Renato Abreu, Obina, and Juan score goals, and Mengão won 5-1. In the second leg, the 1-0 defeat was far from enough to eliminate the team from the quarterfinals.
This time in an interstate derby, the Maracanã was packed once again to push the Mais Querido (Most Beloved). Against a formidable rival—Atlético-MG—Flamengo was undaunted and, once again, scored a landslide. Two goals from Renato, one from Obina, and one from Jônatas qualified the Red-Blacks for the second leg. At the Mineirão, a 0-0 draw secured a spot in the semifinals.
In the final match before the final, the opponent was the tournament's biggest surprise. Ipatinga reached the semifinals after beating established clubs such as Santos, Fortaleza, and Botafogo. At their rival's home ground, Flamengo was securing a significant advantage for the second leg. Obina scored in the first half, giving the scoreboard a 1-0 lead, but Camanducaia equalized in stoppage time. It was Camanducaia who scored the goal that stunned Maracanã in the second leg. Ten minutes in, the Minas Gerais team opened the scoring. But the Nação Rubro-Negra didn't have time to regret it. Four minutes later, Marcelinho equalized. And in the second half, Renato Abreu secured the Rubro-Negro's place in the final.
In the final, a classic. Flamengo hadn't lost—and remains unbeaten in finals—since 1988. Logic prevailed: Flamengo won.
