Set pieces can become a weapon in your favor

Renato Abreu is another specialist who arrives to help Flamengo with free kicks and corners

In modern football, set pieces have become a powerful weapon for teams with strong free kick and corner kick takers. With set plays, especially aerial balls, and, of course, free kicks, many teams have decided matches in their favor. With the arrival of Renato Abreu, coach Rogério Lourenço hopes Flamengo will also begin to use this type of play as a weapon.

In addition to Petkovic, who holds the record for most Olympic goals scored in the world with eight, and who has already made history at Flamengo with his free kicks, Renato is another option that Rogério hopes to rely on a lot throughout the season.

"We've gained a lot from Renato Abreu on set pieces. He's a good shot, a powerful shot, and will be a good option alongside Pet, who is also excellent. And best of all, in addition to his quality, he's also been training, which is essential for fine-tuning his foot," he said.

In Friday's training session (August 13.08), the last before the game against Ceará, the midfielder calibrated his left leg and took many free kicks after the break. The idea is to further improve his skills each week.

"I'm adjusting. It's not ideal yet, because I haven't been training with the ball for a while and it was the first time I'd done this type of kick in training, but I'll get better over time," he said.

Renato Abreu will make his debut this Saturday (14.08) wearing the Flamengo shirt. The midfielder starts playing against Ceará, at 18:30 pm, at Maracanã.
