Last Sunday (September 19.09) marked the end of a drought for Flamengo's forwards. While Deivid scored his first goal for Flamengo in the main team's Fla vs. Flu match, it was Cristian Borja who shone in the U-23 Cup match. The Colombian scored for the first time in the sacred jersey, but he's not content with that.
Next Saturday (25.09), he will be on the field against Palmeiras and wants to score again to help Flamengo achieve their second consecutive victory in the competition.
"A striker lives for goals and it's always good to be scoring. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to score in the first few chances I had, but now, in this debut for the under-23s, I had this chance and I hope to continue helping the team achieve results," said the striker, who explained the curious moment of the goal against Flu (watch here).
"I realized that the goalkeeper could make a mistake, I believed in the play and I'm glad I was lucky with the move," he said.
Borja knows that he needs to not only put the ball in the net but also win titles with the red and black shirt to make his mark at Gávea and get opportunities back in the first team.
"I'm old enough to play in the competition, and I believe it's a very valuable opportunity. Players who join Flamengo know they need to make a name for themselves playing here, and that can only be achieved with goals and titles. My goal is this: to win the U-23 Cup and get new opportunities in the first team," he added.
