The list of foreigners who have found success with Flamengo is extensive, and one of its greatest examples is still playing for the club today, Serbian Petkovic. And that's why Cristian Borja is so motivated. The 22-year-old Colombian striker made his debut for Flamengo last Sunday (July 18.07), in the second half of the match against Atlético-GO, but he's already thinking about his first encounter with the fans at the Maracanã.
The player believes he was able to showcase some of his best football against Dragão. Happy with his strong debut, Borja celebrated helping Flamengo secure another victory in the Brasileirão.
"I was able to show a little service to the fans and the coaching staff. But the most important thing was that I was able to help my team," said the striker, who now can't wait to play his first game at Maracanã.
"Any player's dream is to play at Maracanã. If I get the opportunity to step onto the field on Wednesday, I hope to help Flamengo in the best way possible. Maybe even score a goal. But I'm looking forward to this first contact and meeting the fans. In Goiás, there were a lot of Flamengo fans, but here we'll have even more, and it's definitely going to be special," he said.
Maracanã, the venue for last year's Brasileirão title, with a 2-1 victory over Grêmio. Borja wasn't at Gávea, but he remembers that game well.
"I remember a lot of games. I believe that all classics are always special, like Flamengo and Vasco, Flamengo and Fluminense, and Flamengo and Botafogo. I also remember well that victory against Grêmio, which gave Flamengo the sixth title, which was a beautiful game not only because of the result, but because of the fans' show," he added.
