Colombian Cristian Borja's life at Flamengo began to change when he was selected to play in the U-23 Cup. After appearing seven times for the senior team and not finding the net once, he demonstrated his goal-scoring instinct in the competition. After scoring in the opening match against Fluminense last week, he repeated the feat and scored in the second round, Saturday (24/09), against Palmeiras.
Despite receiving criticism from some fans, Borja maintains his simple and humble demeanor, continues to fight to prove his worth, and promises to keep working hard to keep scoring. He's also still seeking a new opportunity with the senior team.
"I'm happy. It's a good average, I managed to score my goals, but it's still nothing. I have to keep working, dedicating myself, and striving, because the pressure here is huge. Of course, the goal is to reach the top team, but the group's unity here is very good, the relationship is good, everyone is eager to win, and it's no different for me. I'm excited and confident that we'll go after this title," he said.
Borja also shone in the penalty shootout, converting the fourth penalty for the Red-Blacks and securing a 3-1 victory. According to him, this type of penalty shootout is always a test for the players, and in this weekend's duel, for the Colombian, the team is more than approved.
"It's complicated, right? It's always a tense moment. But we talked, we stayed calm, we emphasized the importance of achieving this victory and I was very happy to be able to help," he added.
