Represented in several sports at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Flamengo couldn't be left out of football. Bressan, a defender for the "Mais Querido," was called up to the Brazilian national team seeking a gold medal in Canada.
Coming from Grêmio, Matheus Simonete Bressanelli—better known as Bressan—arrived at Flamengo in January 2015. He quickly found himself at home in the squad. The defender started several times that year. He had previously represented the U-20 national team in 2011 and earned a spot in the U-23 team in 2015.
When he was called up, Bressan thanked the club and his teammates. "It's recognition of the work we've done. I thank Flamengo for the opportunity to be here, for welcoming me this year. I share this with all my teammates, because without them this wouldn't have happened. Many people are part of this, my family, my girlfriend. I can only thank them," he said.
