Flamengo didn't beat Fluminense this Wednesday, but they left the field to a standing ovation from their fans. One player, in particular, received much praise from the stands: goalkeeper Bruno, who scored his fourth goal for Flamengo, the first in 2010, with a beautiful free kick in the 45th minute of the second half.
The goal didn't prevent defeat, and that's the only reason the red-black captain didn't celebrate it more.
"We have to work. It was a beautiful goal, but it didn't mean anything because we lost. The goal doesn't change anything. I really wanted to win," he said.
During the game, some of the fans even protested against the result, but the goalkeeper believes that the Nation can be sure that they will see a Flamengo worthy of its greatness for the rest of the season.
"I know what the fans go through. They're used to winning. Last year, they helped us get promoted, but this year they saw us exit the Libertadores the way we did. They have every right to demand it, and we have to keep working, because this bad phase doesn't last forever," said the captain, who expressed awareness that the team could be revamped in the second half of the year.
"Many changes will happen, but the board is working to replace the pieces. This team will still give a lot to talk about," he added.
