An important victory not only for the points, but for all the circumstances! Flamengo climbed to an altitude of over 3800 meters and secured all three points in its Copa Libertadores debut by beating San José 1-0 at Jesús Bermúdez Stadium in Oruro, Bolivia. With this result, the team is off to a strong start and will now play three home matches against the other teams in Group D. 

Gabriel Barbosa scored, but goalkeeper Diego Alves also shone. He made spectacular saves in both halves, ignoring the high altitude and flying into the net to secure a clean sheet for Flamengo. Rodrigo Caio was also very solid in defense, winning every challenge he faced against the opposing defense. It was aA spirited and collective performance, in very inhospitable conditions, which resulted in the victory and the peace of mind of having a good debut in the most important competition on the continent. 

The first half was a test for Flamengo, as they had to adapt to the pitch, the altitude, and the low temperature. The opponent focused on playing high and long balls, trying to catch Diego Alves out, who made two good saves. More accustomed to the conditions, San José had more possession and created more chances. The red-and-blacks' best opportunity came from Diego, with a beautiful shot from outside the box in the ninth minute. Ten minutes later, Arrascaeta found Gabriel Barbosa on the right in a good position. The striker took a shot, but the ball went too high. San José responded with long shots and great pace, but were stopped by Diego Alves, who secured the equalizer heading into halftime. 

The second half began with a different rhythm. Arão and Everton Ribeiro, who came on at halftime in place of Arrascaeta, took long-range shots to test the goalkeeper. With their new approach, Flamengo pressed forward, and the goal came. In the 14th minute, Bruno Henrique, the man of the match, found Gabriel Barbosa free and slotted home. The number nine stylishly beat the goalkeeper and ran to celebrate. The score was opened in Oruro. With the advantage, Flamengo took control of the game and had more chances to extend their lead, but were denied by the Bolivian goalkeeper. 

With a touch of the ball, the altitude couldn't stop the victory, which came at the final whistle and marked the team's positive debut in the 2019 edition of the Libertadores. Now it's time to turn to the State Championship, as Saturday sees a derby against Vasco da Gama at Maracanã at 19 pm.
