Flamengo vs. Botafogo week is always a special one. We're facing one of our biggest rivals, and as expected, memories of past victories always come to mind.

This Saturday's game will be the 60th in the Brazilian Championship. This number, incidentally, recalls a historic victory in 1981, in the Carioca. On November 08th, Mengão undefeated Botafogo 6-0 in front of a packed Maracanã. Five years later, in the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo thrashed their rivals 6-1, the last major victory in this category (let's not forget the 4-0 victory in 2013). 

We've already covered these games in other specials. Today, we're shifting the focus a bit and focusing on him. Zico. The Galinho who always considered Botafogo his main rival to beat. Ever since he was a fan, Zico wanted to see Flamengo win continuously against the black and white team and contributed significantly to that. With 16 goals, he's the red-and-black team's top scorer in the matchup. And here, in today's Buzz Fla, we've selected six goals (of course) by Zico for you.

It was obvious that Zico could score from anywhere. But on March 18, 1979, he unleashed a stunning shot. He received the ball from Leandro at the edge of the box, with his back to the ball, with the marker on him, controlled the ball, turned, and struck, denying the black and white goalkeeper any chance of saving it. It was Zico's first goal in the 3-0 victory, which secured the title in the first round of the State Championship that year. Check out the masterpiece below. 

Adílio receives the ball, carries it, beats the marker, and finds Zico. He received it, the pitch got in the way, the ball rose, and genius appeared. With a light touch, Zico chipped the ball over Zé Carlos and scored a stunning goal at the Maracanã. A touch of his mastery, his ability to quickly solve a problem. A play reminiscent of his stunning goal against Paraguay in the 1986 World Cup qualifiers. 

In the 2-2 draw in the 1979 Campeonato Carioca, Zico was in the spotlight. The match decided the second half of the competition, and Zico took the field ready to secure the trophy. He scored both goals in the first half, in the 32nd and 45th minutes, and not even Flamengo's draw was enough to prevent Flamengo from winning. Flamengo finished the half with 15 points, two more than Fluminense, who lost 4-1 to América that same day. 

Both goals were the result of opportunistic play by Galinho. For the first, he initiated the play that ended in a scramble at the edge of the box. Zico was having none of it. He slammed home a shot to beat goalkeeper Luís Carlos and open the scoring. The second came in a flurry of activity that the star player capitalized on. He shot the first himself, the ball rebounded off the defense and ended up lost in the box. But perhaps it "seeks," Zico said. Zico grabbed the rebound and again took it past Luís Carlos, finding the corner of the net. In the commentary, the late Luciano do Valle was enamored with Mengão's number 10. Check it out below. 

In 1989, Zico said goodbye to Flamengo and faced his rival for the last time. It was in the state final. The result was bittersweet, as they won the title in two thrilling finals, but what remains in the memory is the stunning free kick he scored in the Rio Cup match. On May 05th, the teams faced off at the Maracanã in front of a humble crowd of 27. The game ended in a 3-3 draw, and Zico's free kick was by far the most beautiful. As fate would have it, his final goal against Botafogo, like against Fluminense, was his signature goal. Against Vasco, it was also a set piece, but a penalty. 

Relive Zico's stunning goal in that 3-3 draw below. In training, he used to say he'd put a shirt or towel in the goal and aim for it. Notice how the ball went where Ricardo Cruz's towel was. Coincidence? I don't think so.
