This Sunday, Mengão faces another challenge in the Brazilian Championship. Seeking to reclaim the lead, the Mais Querido faces América-MG at the Independência Stadium in Belo Horizonte at 16 p.m. It's the final stop before the big match against Cruzeiro in the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

1. Wide advantage

Combining all the matches between Flamengo and América Mineiro, Mengão holds a significant advantage. In 28 matches, they have 15 wins, five losses, and six draws. The difference in goals scored is also significant: 59 to 36. In only one of these 28 matches has Flamengo failed to score, in 1972, when they lost 2-0 at Mineirão.

2. The gunners

With so many victories, it's only natural that many players scored multiple goals in the match. The top scorers are from the distant past. Junqueira and Nonô scored three times in the 8-1 rout in 1924, a record that has yet to be achieved.

With two goals, however, the list is vast. Dida, Zizinho, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Aché, Novinha, Perácio, and Deivid all scored twice, and by a remarkable coincidence. Except for Deivid, all of them scored twice in the same match. Only Deivid needed two games, in 2011, to reach that feat. But there was one other player who scored twice, and we mustn't forget that.

3. Golden Night

It was Julio Cesar's farewell, and all eyes were on the goalkeeper. But it was still a game worth three points, and Henrique Dourado was the one who decided it. With two goals in the first half, the number 19 decided the game in Mengão's favor.

First, Dourado received a cross from Vinicius Junior and slotted it home, falling before the defender, to open the scoring. Then, in his signature move, he scored from the penalty spot, sealing the game's final score. Want to relive it? Check out the FlaTV video below.

4. Night of excitement

The same game was incredibly emotional. It was the farewell to Julio Cesar, an idol and the third-most capped goalkeeper in the history of the Sacred Mantle. Julio was in Europe and returned only to play for three more months and bid farewell to his beloved club.

In front of more than 52 fans, Julio wore the number 12 jersey for the last time. The opponent was América Mineiro, and the match was worth three points in the Brasileirão. It was the second round of the competition, and Flamengo didn't want to hear it. Despite the celebration, victory was assured. 5. To maintain the sequence

In their last nine matches, Flamengo has won eight and drawn one. This Sunday, they could end a 10-game unbeaten streak against América, while also securing three crucial points for qualification. They have won eight of their last eight matches.

- 3x2 and 2x1 in the 2011 Brazilian Championship;

- 1x0 in the 2016 Primeira Liga;

- 2x1 and 1x0 in the 2016 Brazilian Championship;

- 1x0 in the 2017 Primeira Liga;

- 2x0 in the 1st round of the 2018 Brazilian Championship;

6. In Independence

Interestingly, América's stadium didn't host many matches between the teams. Only two friendlies were played there, well before the renovations that completely modernized the venue. Back in 1965 and again in 1970, Flamengo faced Coelho at the stadium and the two games ended in 1-1 draws.

In the first, on June 08, 1965, Amauri scored the red-black goal. In the second, on January 18, 1970, the goal was scored by Arílson.
