Next Monday, at 8 PM, Flamengo will face América-MG at the Kléber Andrade stadium in Cariacica, for the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship. The duel will be marked by distinct objectives in the standings. While Flamengo aims for the top four, the Minas Gerais club is fighting to escape last place. The teams are, respectively, in sixth (24 points) and twentieth (8 points) places. To get in the mood for the game, we decided to recall some matches between the two teams.

In the first year of the Primeira Liga Cup, Flamengo hosted América-MG at the Kleber Andrade Stadium in Espírito Santo, in a match valid for the second round of Group C. Despite the victory, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) had difficulty overcoming the strong marking of their rivals, who relied on counter-attacks to open the scoring. At the beginning of the second half, Flamengo launched an attack and won a penalty after two minutes. The ball hit Jonas' arm inside the area after a cross from Gabriel. Éverton took the penalty with skill and opened the scoring for Flamengo.

With two goals from Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Flamengo defeated América-MG 3-2 at the Arena do Jacaré in Sete Lagoas, in a match valid for the 2011 Brazilian Championship. The game was hard-fought: after Ronaldinho Gaúcho opened the scoring early in the match, Flamengo saw the Minas Gerais club turn the game around in the first half with goals from Alessandro and Anderson. In the second half, Luxemburgo's team equalized with Deivid and took the lead with Ronaldinho Gaúcho.

In a match valid for the second round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship, the Greatest in the World defeated América-MG at the Engenhão stadium in a complicated game. The Minas Gerais team opened the scoring in the first half with a penalty goal by Kempes. In the second half, after substitutions by Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Deivid equalized in the 16th minute, and then Thiago Neves scored the winning goal.
