Next Sunday (21), Flamengo will have a direct confrontation in the Brazilian Championship. This time, the Mais Querido faces Grêmio, in Brasília, in the 21st round of the competition. The teams are, respectively, in sixth (34 points) and third (35 points), but separated by only one point. The game will be held at the Mané Garrincha stadium, at 11 am. To get into the mood for the interstate classic, we decided to remember some notable duels.

In a game valid for the 2015 Brazilian Championship, Flamengo beat Grêmio, at Maracanã, by 1 to 0. Guerrero made his debut at Maracanã wearing the red and black shirt, after 50 days since the announcement of the signing, was the name of the game and scored the winning goal.

In the first leg of the 2001 Mercosul Cup semifinals at the Maracanã, Fla's "Mais Querido" drew 2-2 with Grêmio. The first goal for Carlos Alberto Torres's team came early and shook the "Tricolor Gaúcho" (Grêmio). Just four minutes into the first half, Petkovic took a free kick from the edge of the box and sent it to defender Juan, who deflected it past Danrlei and into the net: Fla's 1-0 lead. In the 19th minute, Reinaldo burst into the box and passed the ball to Beto, who scored. Anderson Polga and Fábio Baiano pulled one back for Fla.

In the decisive match of the 2001 Mercosur semifinal, Flamengo held on to a draw against Grêmio at the Olímpico Stadium and advanced to the finals of the competition, beating their rivals on penalties. In the first half, despite dominating, the Rio Grande do Sul team only managed one chance to score in the 26th minute, through Pedrinho. Afterwards, the Greatest in the World flourished thanks to Grêmio's poor passing. In the 32nd minute, Beto took a long-range shot, but Danrlei saved. In the 35th minute, Petkovic hit the right post, and a minute later, Edílson came in unmarked, but Danrlei saved for a corner. In the second half, Flamengo continued to play from the back. Grêmio pressed hard, but without threatening the opposing goalkeeper. In the 25th minute, the fans were shocked: Edílson burst into the box, but his shot went wide. In the 33rd minute, Fábio Baiano took a shot, and Júlio César saved. At 43, Cláudio forced the goalkeeper into another great save. In the penalty shootout, Mengão won.

The unforgettable game of the Hexa! Despite lacking much motivation, Grêmio took the lead with a goal from striker Roberson in the 21st minute of the first half. However, in the 29th minute, defender David Braz capitalized on a rebound and leveled the score. The winning goal came in the 24th minute of the second half. Petkovic took a corner kick, Ronaldo Angelim rose higher than the opposing defenders and headed the ball into Marcelo Grohe's net. After the final whistle, the more than 70 red-and-black fans in attendance at Maracanã went wild with the Brazilian title, a title they hadn't won in 17 years.

In the first leg of the 1982 Brazilian Championship final at the Maracanã, the Rubro-Negro drew 1-1 with Grêmio. Despite playing defensively, the Rio Grande do Sul club opened the scoring in the 38th minute of the second half with Tonho Gil. However, Zico leveled the score for the Greatest in the World in the 44th minute of the second half. The final would be decided away from home.

In the second leg of the 1982 Brazilian Championship final, in Porto Alegre, there was another draw, this time 0-0. The title would only be decided in a third game, again at Grêmio's home ground.

The match couldn't have been more exciting. One of the highlights of that year's title decider was the private duel between Grêmio goalkeeper Leão and Flamengo striker Nunes. Leão even hit the Flamengo number nine with an elbow, but the retribution came within the rules of the game. Just 10 minutes in, Zico launched the striker, who would have given the team from Gávea its second national championship title. After that, Raul would make two sensational saves in the same play and, in the 42nd minute, he would anticipate a dangerous cross from Paulo Roberto. With the goalkeeper closing in, the trophy that year was indeed destined for Gávea.

In the third phase of the 1976 Brazilian Championship, Mengão thrashed Grêmio 5-1 at the Maracanã, with goals from Luisinho (4) and Zico. Tarcisio scored the consolation goal for the team from Rio Grande do Sul.
