After a long time away from Maracanã, Flamengo returns to the stadium on Sunday (23), against Corinthians, at 17 pm, in a game valid for the 31st round of the Brazilian Championship. Currently in second place in the tournament with 60 points, Rubro-Negro remains firmly in search of the seventh championship.

Boavista tried hard, but couldn't hold off the reigning Rio de Janeiro champions. Despite a good first half, the team from Saquarema couldn't avoid defeat against Flamengo on the afternoon of January 20, 2008, at the Maracanã. With goals from Souza and Fábio Luciano, both in the second half, Flamengo confirmed their status as favorites and left the field with a 2-0 victory.

Flamengo started the first half poorly, making many passing errors. From the 25th minute onwards, the team found its rhythm and began to pressure Cabofriense. It didn't take long for the first goal to arrive. In the 32nd minute, Juan, one of Flamengo's standout players in the game, was fouled by Oziel, resulting in a penalty. Renato converted the penalty to open the scoring. Six minutes later, Juan made another good play and crossed the ball. The defense cleared, but Obina pounced on the rebound to extend Flamengo's lead. In the second half, the team continued to press, but couldn't maintain the same intensity. Juninho Paulista was substituted in the 14th minute, replaced by Roni, who made his debut for Flamengo. Flamengo still had a chance to extend their lead with Irineu in the 30th minute. In the end, the Flamengo fans left the Maracanã chanting: "Oh! Libertadores, we'll be there any day now!"

In the first match of 1999, Flamengo and Fluminense competed in the São Sebastião Cup friendly tournament, named after the city of Rio de Janeiro. Romário opened the scoring with a stunning goal after receiving a pass from Caio, dribbling past the goalkeeper and two defenders, and scoring. Flamengo won 5-3.

Flamengo crushed Corinthians 3-0 at Maracanã in the 1997 Rio-São Paulo Tournament. Romário (2) and Sávio scored for the Rubro-Negro. Wearing the Rubro-Negro jersey, Romário scored 204 goals in 240 matches, averaging 0,85 goals per game. Against Corinthians, the shorty liked to score. He scored 9 goals in 12 duels, averaging 0,75 in the classic. In 95, Romário scored one for Corinthians. In the years 96, 97, 98 and 99, the shorty increased his average to two goals per year.
