Felipe had been out of action for some time. He arrived at Flamengo motivated and full of energy. But he lost his breath at some points during Thursday afternoon's training session (January 06.01th) at the SM Sports training center in Londrina. On this third day of pre-season training for Flamengo, goalkeeping coach Cantareli didn't give the new goalkeeper or the other goalkeepers any slack.
Former Flamengo goalkeeper and member of the so-called Golden Generation, Canta has prepared an intense training circuit for the goalkeepers. He explains that the intention is precisely this: to test the players' endurance so that they can be well prepared in this first part of the year.
"Normally, I do this type of activity with a stretched rope, but I'm concerned about them bumping into it, so putting another goalkeeper there forces the jump more, demands more from those who are jumping, and they end up not getting hurt. That's the goal. It's straightforward. What we used today is to give them an energy reserve, in case something unexpected happens and they're out for a day or two, so they're okay," he said.
Regarding Felipe, Cantareli considers the goalkeeper's behavior so far to be natural. Excited about the chance to work with him and help him develop in time to start the season well, the coach believes in the success of the new Flamengo goalkeeper.
"That's normal. It's a different style. He was in Portugal, the pace is different, and I even talked to him about it; I explained that it would happen. Our intention is always to improve. You can't achieve anything comfortably. Today you suffer a little to have a greater gain tomorrow," he added.
