After a 2-0 loss to São Paulo on Sunday at Morumbi Stadium, Flamengo dropped two places and sits in seventh place in the Brazilian Championship. Even with a nine-point lead over leaders Grêmio, the red-and-black team remains in contention for a spot in the Copa Libertadores and the 2008 Brasileirão title. Of the thirteen remaining games in the championship, nine will be played in Rio de Janeiro. As a result, Flamengo's squad relies on the strength of its 12th player: the red-and-black nation.

Captain Fábio Luciano thanked the fans for their support during Sunday's match, as he practically shared the Morumbi stadium with the São Paulo fans. For the next match, against Ipatinga, the red-and-black captain is once again counting on the support of the fans.

"The fans supported us in São Paulo, and we didn't do well. We continue to count on that support. We ask for their patience, but please don't abandon us now. The key game now is against Ipatinga."

Supporter Ibson says that Flamengo's greatest strength is its fans.

"Our greatest strength is our fans; it's always been that way. If necessary, we'll give our all on the field to win on Sunday. Flamengo's obligation is to always win, especially when playing at home. I hope they show up and support us always."
