Despite conceding their first goal of the year, another convincing performance from the red-and-black defense was crucial to securing a spot in the Guanabara Cup final. With a dominant style of play for most of the half, coach Paulo César Carpegiani's men performed exceptionally well, reflected in the three goals they scored.

In the mixed zone, goalkeeper César praised the team's performance. "It was important for the team to play the way they did. We created a lot of chances and could have even extended our lead. We were very consistent," praised César, who commented on conceding the first goal of 2018. "Unfortunately, it was bound to come at some point. But I believe that because of everything we achieved during the game, we're ready to reach the final," he analyzed.

Despite the strong performance, the opponent created dangerous situations in the second half. The goalkeeper commented on the difficult moments experienced by the defense, but praised the team's resilience despite some challenging moments on the field, which culminated in the goal that decided the match.

"We knew it would be a difficult game, especially considering it was a derby. We were able to create and build well. And the way it went. They were able to score, perhaps in a moment of inattention on our part. The game was very good for us, especially because of the positive result," he observed.

In the first round of the State Championship, Flamengo will face Boavista, who drew 2-2 with Bangu and qualified for the final thanks to a better campaign than their opponent in the group stage. With an eye on the final, César preached humility and dedication in the pursuit of the title.

"They arrived and are ready to be there. They had a good campaign. I think it will be a very good final and a very difficult match, just like today. But we will strive to be champions," he emphasized.

The match will be played on February 18th, with the venue yet to be defined.
