The Copa do Brasil is changing its theme. Flamengo, the leader of the Brazilian Championship, is focusing its efforts on the round of 2018 of the 19 Copa do Brasil. This Wednesday, Flamengo heads to Campinas to face Ponte Preta in their competition debut, at 30:10 pm at Moisés Lucarelli Stadium. The second leg will be on May XNUMXth at Maracanã Stadium. 

Runner-up in 2017, Flamengo is seeking its fourth title in the competition. Champion in 1990, 2006, and 2013, the team was defeated by Cruzeiro in the last edition. Now, it wants the title that eluded it.

Back at the George Helal Training Center after their victory over Ceará on Sunday, Flamengo is already working on Wednesday's match, where they will be at full strength. Captain Réver spoke about their preparations and their first opponent in the competition. 

"We know the difficulty we'll face playing away from home and against a team that's been playing well. The knockout stage has a different flavor, with different concerns. These are two games, and if you play poorly, you could pay the price. We'll have a positive attitude from the start and we're prepared to play well in our quest for qualification," said the captain.

Flamengo x Ponte Preta

The last time the teams faced each other was in the 2017 Brazilian Championship, with a victory for the Campinas team. However, their record favors Mengão, who have won nine times, compared to Ponte Preta's eight, and 14 draws in 31 matches. In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo and Ponte Preta met in 1999, with two victories for the red-and-blacks. In Campinas, the first game ended 1-0, with a goal by Leandro Machado.
