It's time for the kids

The group is betting on the talent of its young players to overcome Goiás at Maracanã and remain in the G4

Without its main stars, Flamengo takes the field this Saturday (05.06), at 18:30 pm, at Maracanã, betting on the supporting players of the constellation. Seeking to maintain its position in the top four of the Brasileirão in the last round before the break for the World Cup, the Rubro-Negro faces Goiás with no formation or lineup yet defined. But, with the many absences, coach Rogério Lourenço will once again have to field young talent.

On Friday (June 04.06), in the final training session before the match, Rogério tested formations with two and three defenders. However, he hasn't yet decided on the starting lineup. Regardless, goalkeeper Bruno believes it's time for the younger players to step up and prove themselves. Forward Diego Maurício, for example, is expected to start.

"It's time for these kids to take responsibility. Of course, the absences make a difference, they're important, but we have to count on the squad that Rogério has available. The boys already know Flamengo well, they know what the pressure is like, and I'm sure they can help us," said the Flamengo captain.

Defender David, who despite having some experience is also young, having just turned 23, knows all too well the difficulties of adapting to the professional rhythm after coming through the youth ranks. Even so, he believes the youngsters at the club can produce good results in the future.

"It's quite different playing in the youth teams than playing in the professional team, but these players who are with us have already proven their quality and that they can be at Flamengo. Camacho and Galhardo, for example, already played games last year, as did Lenon, and Diego Maurício, despite having just been promoted, also has a lot of potential. They know that, whenever possible, they will always find help from the more experienced players. This is essential to establishing themselves in a professional team," he assured.

Rogério's doubt
Rogério Lourenço's biggest question is whether to field a 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2 formation. The main choice he'll have to make, therefore, is between a center-back (Welinton, who would replace Álvaro) and a midfielder (Camacho, who returns from suspension and would be the replacement for the injured Petkovic). Up front, Bruno Mezenga and Diego Maurício are competing for the spot of Vagner Love, who is out due to a grade-one left thigh injury.

"We have some absences, but we also have alternatives. For the attack, we even had to rely on Bruno Mezenga, who has always worked hard, has potential, and can help us. We have a group with good options here, and despite the difficulties, we will try to put on the field what is best for Flamengo. We have players who are eager, trying to show their potential, and that is important," analyzed the coach.

With nine points, Flamengo is fourth in the competition, and a win will guarantee the team at least that position for the next month. After all, the Brasileirão will be suspended during the World Cup. During this period, Flamengo will undertake an offseason, with the location and dates yet to be determined.
