Chileans complain about the refereeing
Universidad Católica coach and players call Mirosevic's expulsion "unfair"

Referee Carlos Amarilla was shown a red card during interviews with Chile's Universidad Católica (UC). After the 2-0 loss to Flamengo on Wednesday night in their group stage debut in the Copa Santander Libertadores, the team was quick to criticize the Paraguayan.
In an interview with La Tercera, Chilean midfielder Milovan Mirosevic, who was sent off in the 42nd minute of the first half, said his step on Toró was unintentional. "I never wanted to step on him. It's a shame because we were taking control of the match in a difficult stadium like the Maracanã."
With Mirosevic's expulsion, [the referee] wanted to compensate [Willians' expulsion]", said defender Ismael Fuentes.
Coach Marco Antonio Figueroa was more incisive. According to him, the referee was primarily responsible for the result. "The referee compensated for their sending-off. And that didn't do us any favors because on such a large field, playing with 10 men is impossible. Unfortunately, Amarilla got in the way and helped the opponent," he accused.
The UC coach noted that he knew beforehand that the match would be complicated by Flamengo's quality. "Even so, we were playing a good game. A terrible mistake resulted in the sending off of 'Milo,' who is an exemplary player on the field."
