Heading to the quarterfinals! On Wednesday night (7), Flamengo ended up losing to Palmeiras 1-0 at Allianz Parque, but secured a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil by winning the first leg 2-0 at Maracanã. Now, Mengão awaits the draw to find out its opponent in the next phase.

The game
Needing to score, Palmeiras started the match by attacking Flamengo, as expected. The initial pressure resulted in the team's eighth-minute goal, with Vitor Reis' header. Initially, the assistant referee flagged for offside, but after a VAR review, Daronco confirmed the goal: 1-0.

Little by little, Flamengo managed to contain the opponent's initial pressure and began to retain possession. Around the 30th minute, Arrascaeta made a good run down the left and sent a low cross into the box to Gerson. The number 8 was brought down inside the box in a dubious play.  

In the final minutes of the first half, the Red-Blacks began to dominate possession in the attacking half. In the 45th minute, Luiz Araújo received the ball on the right side of the box, made a body movement, and shot into the corner. Weverton made the save. The home side went into halftime with a one-goal lead.

In the second half, coach Tite brought on David Luiz in place of Luiz Araújo. Palmeiras continued to attack, while Flamengo adjusted their defense and defended deep. In the 16th minute, Erick Pulgar received the ball just outside the box and shot into the corner.

Palmeiras scored the second goal through Flaco López. But after a VAR review, the referee ruled the striker offside, much to the relief of the club's more than 40 million fans. The home team continued to attack, and the red-and-black team tried to control the result.

The referee added eight minutes of stoppage time, and Mengão held off Palmeiras' pressure, leaving the field qualified for the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. Let's go, Flamengo!
