After much struggle and anticipation, Colombia secured a spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. With the participation of Flamengo players Gustavo Cuéllar and Orlando Berrío, the national team finishes the qualifying period already qualified and is counting down the days until the start of the competition.

Colombia's campaign had its ups and downs. Even so, the team was considered one of the main contenders for direct qualification spots, a feat they achieved in the final round playing in Lima, Peru. Now, the expectation is to improve on their performance from the last World Cup, when the Colombians were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Brazil.

In a packed National Stadium, the Colombian team managed to control their anxiety and, with a goal from James Rodriguez, opened the scoring. The Peruvians, led by Paolo Guerrero and Miguel Trauco, pressed hard, but Colombia held off their opponents and secured direct qualification for the World Cup.

For Cuéllar and Berrío, this will be a golden opportunity to earn a spot on the national team. Having stood out during the season wearing the sacred red and black jersey, the Colombians begin their fight to, perhaps, make the squad for the 2018 World Cup.
