Right-back Varela, who was one of the standout performers in the 4-0 victory over Boavista in the 9th round of the Campeonato Carioca, was invited to participate in FlaTV's "Resenha do Jogo" program. The number 2 spoke briefly about the last match, his good form under Tite, and also previewed the next match, against Fluminense, next Sunday at Maracanã. Check out some excerpts from the interview:

Tite's Instructions
"You can see that I'm often going inside; it's one of the things Tite asks of me. I'm improving with each game, because full-backs tend to go outside, but to free up the winger, like Luiz Araújo or anyone else who comes on in the second half, like Bruno Henrique or Cebola. I stay more inside, if the defender has the ball, to create space for that pass."

About Uruguayans
"They give me confidence. I know how they move during the game. So I know when to do something, and I know that Nico and Arrasca will be there, a ball release with pressure, and they'll be there to receive the pass."

defensive solidity
That's what we always say: keep working hard, and that's something we continue to do, and it's working. So, we have to stay on the same path and try to score goals up front. But it's not just the defense, it's the whole team that helps us avoid conceding goals.
