It's Mengão again! With a convincing performance, the "Mais Querido" defeated Fortaleza 2-0 this Saturday afternoon at Nilton Santos Stadium, climbing even higher in the Brazilian Championship standings. With 13 points, Flamengo has temporarily moved into the top four. Gabigol scored both goals.

First time

The Mais Querido's dominance was absolute, and so were the best chances. The goal, however, didn't come until the 39th minute. After a beautiful play on the left between Diego, Everton Ribeiro, and De Arrascaeta, the Uruguayan crossed into the box and found Gabigol free to score: 1-0.

Second time

Mengão continued to dominate the match, creating countless scoring opportunities. And it was only a matter of time before the second goal. In the 22nd minute, the Arrascaeta-Gabigol duo worked again. The Uruguayan found the striker unmarked in the box, and of course, he found the net: 2-0. The referee needed VAR assistance to validate the goal. And that's how it ended: 2-0 and a national celebration at Nilton Santos!

Flamengo returns to the field on Tuesday at Maracanã to face Corinthians in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16. A draw will qualify the Red-Blacks for the next round.
