In a hard-fought duel, Flamengo did not give up, fought until the end and beat Corinthians 1-0 on Wednesday night (17), at Maracanã, in the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. With this result, the team remains in second place in the competition.

The game

Mengão's first chance came in the fifth minute. After a cross into the box, Vitor Gabriel rose highest and headed the ball into the middle of the goal. In the 29th minute, Vitinho made a good individual play and fired over the bar. The pressure continued, and five minutes later, Matheuzinho took a chance from outside the box, but the ball went just wide. In the 44th minute, the right-back pounced on a rebound and forced Cássio into a great save in the final play of the first half. 

In the second half, in the ninth minute, Thiago Maia struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box, creating a threat. In the 15th minute, Michael delivered a beautiful pass to Bruno Henrique, who nearly opened the scoring. João Gomes then found Kenedy, and the number 33 shot wide. In the 21st minute, Kenedy hit the ball first time after a corner kick, but the ball hit the post. In the 32nd minute, Rodinei headed the ball, Bruno Henrique shot, and the opposing goalkeeper made another difficult save. In the closing stages of the match, Michael crossed, and João Gomes hit the post. In stoppage time, the pressure paid off! Rodinei lined up the wing and crossed for Bruno Henrique to swell the net, sending the nation into a frenzy at the Maracanã stadium: 1-0!
