Another triumph in the Primeira Liga Cup marked the night of this Thursday (16). At the Valmir Campelo Bezerra Stadium, popularly known as Bezerrão, Flamengo beat América-MG 1-0, with striker Gabriel scoring the goal that guaranteed the three points. The result keeps Mais Querido in the isolated lead of group B of the competition, with six points, and puts them on track to qualify for the next phase.
At the start of the first half, the speed and movement of the attacking quartet made the difference. Quick passes dictated the rhythm of the red-and-black attack, mainly exploiting their power on the wings.

Then, in the 10th minute, Renê passed to Leandro Damião, who drew the Minas Gerais defense into the box, allowing Berrío to exploit the space left on the right wing. The Colombian striker delivered a low cross, finding Gabriel unmarked on the opposite side. With skill, the number 17 slotted it into the back of the net to open the scoring.

Flamengo had two chances to extend their lead after the first goal, but were denied by good saves from goalkeeper João Ricardo. Throughout the first half, América-MG managed to level the playing field, threatening the Flamengo goal and forcing some good saves from Alex Muralha, demonstrating his usual confidence between the posts.

For the second half of the match, Berrío and Damião gave way to Cafu and Adryan, making the team even leaner in attack. The game plan was made easier by the sending-off of Gerson Magrão, who received a second yellow card for a foul on Rodinei. Despite creating good opportunities, Enderson Moreira's men managed to hold on to the result at Bezerrão.

With an eye on the next commitment, this time for the Campeonato Carioca, Mais Querido will begin preparations for the clash against Madureira this Friday (17). The match will be played at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in Volta Redonda-RJ, with the ball rolling from 17 pm.
