The game

The match had barely begun and Flamengo was already threatening within a minute of play. Bruno Henrique was played through on the left, cut inside, and fired a shot. Everson made the save. Minutes later, Pedro controlled the ball inside the box and fired a powerful shot into the top corner. The goalkeeper made another great save.

Atlético attempted to respond immediately and threatened the red-and-black goal. Viña passed back to Rossi, and Rony got there first to steal the ball. The striker shot toward goal, and Varela managed to clear it off the line. Gabriel Menino then shot into the corner, but the red-and-black goalkeeper made the save. In the 20th minute, Pedro passed to Bruno Henrique at the edge of the box; he dribbled past Alan Franco and fired a shot. The ball went just wide of the crossbar.

In the final stretch of the first half, Plata was brought down just a step outside the box. The referee initially awarded a penalty. However, after a VAR review, he reversed his decision and awarded the foul. The red-and-black team pressed in stoppage time but failed to find the net and went into halftime with the score tied 0-0.

Flamengo returned for the second half with Evertton Araujo replacing Allan, who was booked for a yellow card. With the game quite tight in the opening minutes, the red-and-black team tried to maintain possession in the attacking half, but struggled to create any chances.

After so much persistence, Mengão opened the scoring in the 30th minute to the nation's celebration! Luiz Araújo took a free kick into the box and Léo Ortiz headed it firmly into the net: 1-0. It was the defender's sixth goal wearing the Manto and the 18th assist for the number 7.

In the final minutes, Atlético launched an attack looking for an equalizer, but Flamengo managed to control the action and waited until the final whistle to secure another home victory. With the result, Mengão returned to the top of the Brasileirão with 36 points.
