The game
Playing at their best, Flamengo started the match valuing possession in the attacking half, while Boavista remained defensively focused, waiting for opportunities to counterattack. Five minutes in, the red-and-black team created a threat for the first time. After a corner kick into the box, Léo Pereira headed the ball into the corner, but goalkeeper Fernando made the save.

The Mais Querido (the most beloved) patiently passed the ball back and forth, with plenty of movement in the midfield. In the 23rd minute, Arrascaeta sent a beautiful pass to Pedro inside the box. The number 9 attempted a backheel shot, but the goalkeeper jumped to the left corner to make the save. In the 28th minute, Gerson received the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful shot. The ball hit the post, and on the rebound, Thiago Maia fired over the Boavista goal.

In the final stretch of the first half, the Saquarema team began to threaten the Flamengo goal more. So much so that, in the 32nd minute, Peu took a dangerous free kick, forcing Matheus Cunha to make a great save, sending the ball out for a corner. Flamengo then went on the attack, and Everton Ribeiro, without letting the ball drop, fired a strong left-footed shot from the edge of the box. The goalkeeper made the save. In the 41st minute, Gabi attempted a chip over Fernando, but the ball bounced over the crossbar. The referee had already flagged the number 10 for offside. The first half ended goalless.

The Mais Querido returned for the second half dominating possession and putting pressure on Boavista. The red-and-black team continued to create scoring chances, but lacked in the final pass. Just before the technical timeout, Coach Vitor Pereira made the first changes to the team. Ayrton Lucas, Erick, and Cebolinha came on, replacing Filipe Luís, Thiago Maia, and Everton Ribeiro, respectively. The changes were made to try to break through Boavista's defensive block.

Then, in the 22nd minute, Mengão finally found a way to open the scoring. Gabi delivered a great cross from the right, Pedro managed to move into the box and dived to tap the ball into the back of the net: 1-0. The number 9 reached his 75th goal in 164 appearances for the Sacred Mantle. Gabigol, meanwhile, notched his 39th assist in 215 appearances for Flamengo.

Rubro-Negro narrowly missed out on a second in the 45th minute. Cebolinha exchanged passes with Gabi and fired a first-time shot, but the goalkeeper saved it from close range, but the ball was palmed out for a corner. The game at the Maracanã ended with a victory for Rubro-Negro!

Now it's full focus on the World Cup! Mengão leaves this Thursday (2) for Morocco, with full coverage on FlaTV from 18:30 pm.
