Qualified! Flamengo went to Arena da Baixada and beat Athletico-PR 1-0 on Wednesday night (17) and advanced to the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil. Mengão's goal was scored by Pedro, at the beginning of the second half. Now, Rubro-Negro awaits its opponent, who will come out of the match between São Paulo and América-MG.

The game

Flamengo started the match by taking the initiative to keep possession of the ball, exchanging passes in the attacking half. In the sixth minute, Flamengo created the first good opportunity. Arrascaeta controlled the ball in midfield, cleared the play, and shot toward goal. The ball sailed over the crossbar. 

Athletico kept the game stalled with numerous fouls, making it difficult for Flamengo to get the ball out. In the final stretch of the first half, Flamengo regained its momentum and began to dominate the attacking half, seeking space in the Paraná defense. In the 38th minute, Everton Ribeiro found Gabigol on the right; the striker crossed into the box, and Arrascaeta headed wide.

In the 41st minute, Arrascaeta set up Gabigol for a left-footed shot. Bento palmed it away for a corner. Flamengo was the better team in the first half, but the score remained at XNUMX-XNUMX. 

The second half began with the same scenario as the first: Flamengo dominating the action and Athletico staying deep, waiting to counterattack. In the 6th minute, Rodinei received the ball from Everton Ribeiro and fired a cross. Bento rebounded the ball into the middle of the box, and Fernandinho made the save. 

After so much persistence, Mengão opened the scoring with a stunning goal! Rodinei reached the baseline and crossed into the six-yard box. Pedro appeared unmarked and hit a beautiful overhead kick, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance: 0-1.

After the goal, Athletico began to attack more, opening up the game. In the 29th minute, Pedro sprinted forward, found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and passed to Gabi, who hit the post. A great opportunity wasted. 

In the final minutes, Athletico pressed in search of an equalizer, but Fla managed to hold on and left the field with the victory and qualification for the semifinals guaranteed.

The Most Beloved returns to the field on Sunday (21) to face Palmeiras, at 16 pm, at Allianz Parque, for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship.
