With a great goal from Rever, Flamengo draws with Corinthians in Itaquera
The team falls behind, but recovers in the second half and is in fifth place.
By Lucas Dantas - Flamengo Communications - inA draw for those who fought harder. Flamengo fell behind on the scoreboard and played a subpar first half, but in the second half they found their feet and completely dominated Corinthians, managing to bring home a point. Rever's goal brought justice to the score, but Flamengo still had other chances, and a victory would perhaps have been the result that best explained the match's outcome. Flamengo now has 29 points, in fifth place in the table, and faces Santos on Wednesday (02), at 21:45 pm, at Pacaembu.
The first half began with both teams fighting hard for the ball. Flamengo had the first chance to score. In the sixth minute, Guerrero picked up the ball in midfield and carried it until he shot from the edge of the box. The ball sailed to the left of Cassio's post. And the team was stopped. Playing at home, Corinthians took advantage and pushed forward, opening the scoring. In the 22nd minute, Jô received a beautiful pass, beat Pará in the race, and shot to the left of Diego Alves, making it 1-0 for the home team.
After the goal, Corinthians waited for Flamengo to play at home, but Flamengo didn't create many chances. This remained the scenario until the end of the first half, with no major excitement for either side.
With William Arão replacing Cuellar, Flamengo returned for the second half looking to find space in Corinthians' defense. In the sixth minute, Guerrero had the best chance of the game. The Peruvian forward received a pass from Diego and went one-on-one with Cássio, but he couldn't control the ball, which sailed harmlessly over the goal. In the 12th minute, another great opportunity arose. Everton took a corner from the left, Juan rose higher than the defense and headed it down, but Cássio made a great save.
With the majority of possession, Flamengo continued to play and wait. But it was from a corner kick that the goal came. In a rehearsed play, Juan rose and passed to Rever, who volleyed in a stunning goal, tying the match in the 25th minute. The goal boosted confidence, and two minutes later, the team came back with a one-two and nearly turned the game around. Berrio ran down the right, passed to Arão, who found Diego free, but the number 35 mistimed the ball and sent it wide.
In the 40th minute, Zé Ricardo sent on Vinicius Junior, and the young star ignited the match. In his first play, he made a great run on the right wing and looked for Guerrero, but Cassio saved. Three minutes later, another great chance, and the cry of goal lingered in the crowd. Pedro Henrique mishandled Berrio's cross, and the ball hit the crossbar. A minute later, Diego Alves saved a powerful shot from Jô and saved Flamengo. And the score remained 1-1.
