In the third round of the Rio de Janeiro state championship, Flamengo suffered its third rout of the tournament. With a well-coordinated collective performance, Mancuello and Guerrero shone, and the Mais Querido defeated Nova Iguaçu 4-0.

With this result, Flamengo practically sealed its place in the semifinals of the 2017 Guanabara Cup. With nine points, the Rubro-Negro is leading Group B and can no longer be reached by four of the five teams outside the qualifying zone.

The Mais Querido's next match is on Wednesday (8), against Grêmio. The match, which takes place in Brasília, marks the squad's debut in the 2017 Primeira Liga Cup. The team returns to the field for the Carioca championship next Sunday (12), against Botafogo.

Despite slight lineup changes, Flamengo repeated the style and level of play from the last two matches against Boavista and Macaé. Dominating from the first minute of play, the team had over 60% possession and created chances at every turn. The first goal came in the 19th minute. On a move down the left, Adryan provided a beautiful pass to Trauco, who crossed. Guerrero let the ball through, and Mancuello tapped it into the back of the net. Flamengo continued to press throughout the first half until, in the final play before halftime, Guerrero doubled the lead. Márcio Araújo delivered a precise pass to Pará, who crossed perfectly for the Peruvian to convert with a header. 

With the game in hand, Flamengo returned for the second half without letting up the pace. The players constantly created chances. In the tenth minute, Adryan made a beautiful dribble down the left and crossed just beyond Guerrero's reach. The following minute, the third goal. Mancuello received the ball in the middle, carried it, and shot powerfully. The ball went into the top corner, denying the Nova Iguaçu goalkeeper any chance of saving it. After 15 minutes, Zé Ricardo made substitutions. Cirino, Cuéllar, and Damião came on for Adryan, Arão, and Gabriel. The score was sealed half an hour into the second half. Cirino stole the ball in defense and passed to Guerrero, who played a beautiful ball to Damião. The number 18 played Cirino back to him, who backheeled the ball back. Inside the box, the striker was brought down, and the referee awarded a penalty. Guerrero was the chosen taker and converted, putting the ball in the corner.
