In the closing of the 23rd round of the 2017 Brasileirão, Flamengo ended up being defeated by Botafogo 2-0 (goals by Roger) at the opponent's home. Even with the defeat, the team remains in the qualifying zone for the Conmebol Libertadores - occupying fifth position in the table with 35 points. Now, attention turns to the match against Chapecoense, Wednesday (12), 19:15, at Arena Condá, for the Conmebol Sudamericana. As for the national competition, the next challenge will be against Sport, Sunday (16), 16:00, at Ilha do Urubu.

A disjointed game with few opportunities.

The first 45 minutes were disjointed. In an intense battle for space, Botafogo and Flamengo alternated dominance in search of opportunities that were slow to materialize. Diego Alves and Gatito Fernandez gave the attackers no openings, and both teams marked tightly. Thus, Flamengo's best chance came from a set piece in the 20th minute. On a counter-attack, Everton Ribeiro appeared at speed and was brought down. Guerrero, with great skill, sent the ball into the corner, forcing a great save from the opposing goalkeeper.

Guerrero had another opportunity on a counter-attack, but the ball didn't find the net. In defense, Diego Alves also secured the draw with a great save after a header from Roger.

The opponent finds openings and decides the game.

In the second half, Botafogo found opportunities and sealed the match. In the 11th minute, from a corner kick, Igor Rabelo forced Diego Alves to dive to the corner. The ball, however, hit the post and fell to Roger, who opened the scoring. In the 23rd minute, in a play down the right flank, Roger finished off a cross to make it 2-0.

Reinaldo Rueda brought on Berrío, Arão, and Everton, the first two before the second goal, to pressure Botafogo and seek an equalizer. Despite having more possession, Flamengo couldn't break through the opposing defense, and the match ended with a victory for the home team.

And now?

With 35 points, Flamengo remains in the qualifying zone for the 2018 Conmebol Libertadores.
