With thicker stripes and lyrics from the Official Anthem, the new Mantle is on sale
New versions of the anthem were produced in three different rhythms by Marcelo D2, MC Rebecca and MC Cabelinho
By Flamengo and adidas - inThat's a lot of history for just one club. With so much tradition and Flamengo's origins in mind, the new jersey by adidas revives the club's official anthem, which was first sung on November 15, 1920. A century later, the 2020/2021 season kit is inspired by one of the most memorable moments of the club, a moment that continues to be sung in the stands. "Flamengo, your glory is to fight," says the lyrics, which perfectly capture the feeling of supporting Flamengo.
Originally composed by Paulo Magalhães, the official anthem inspired a classic samba from the fan's imagination, the "Samba Rubro-negro," which borrowed the original refrain to compose "Flamengo! Flamengo! Your glory is to fight! When Flamengo loses, I don't want to have lunch, I don't want to have dinner."
For the launch, adidas invited Marcelo D2, MC Rebecca and MC Cabelinho to recreate the anthem in afrobeat, trap-funk and rhythm and blues versions, respectively. Each artist recorded a music video for each version. MC Rebecca paid tribute to Vila Sapê, a community in Rio's West Zone. MC Cabelinho recorded the new Manto in Pavão-Pavãozinho, the place where he was born. Rapper Marcelo D2 chose the legendary Nas Nuvens studio.
"More than just uniforms, adidas wants to provide fans with a complete experience on and off the field. We chose three of Brazil's most popular artists, each going in completely different directions to recreate the anthem. Seeing so much diversity in a launch by Brazil's most popular club is immensely pleasing," says André Campos, head of football at adidas.
The uniform carries the lyrics of the anthem in the thick red stripes of the 2020/21 version. With AEROREADY technology, the Manto will be available from 14.02 in adidas stores, Flamengo stores and on the website www.adidas.com.br, priced at R$249,99, with men's, women's and children's models.
