In a match of the first round of the Cariocão 2026, Flamengo lost to Bangu 2-1 on Wednesday night (14), at the Moça Bonita stadium. Guilherme scored the only Flamengo goal in the match. It is worth noting that Flamengo played again with a team made up of players from the club's youth categories. In the next round, Mais Querido will face Volta Redonda at Raulino de Oliveira.

The game

The match started quite choppy, with fouls and a lot of battling for possession. On the first counter-attack, Bangu opened the scoring after just three minutes. Garrinsha stole the ball in midfield and passed to PK, who outpaced the defense and struck a powerful shot into the back of the net at Moça Bonita: 1-0. 

Flamengo tried to respond immediately and had a good chance with Wallace Yan. Douglas Telles crossed into the area for the number 64, who ended up hitting the ball weakly and the goalkeeper made the save. Bangu extended their lead in the 11th minute with a great goal. Garrinsha received the ball on the left, cut inside the area and sent it into the top corner, giving Léo Nanneti no chance: 2-0. 

Trailing behind, the Flamengo youth team pressed forward and pulled one back in the 18th minute with a beautiful goal. Daniel Sales passed to Guilherme, who took advantage of the goalkeeper being out of position to chip the ball over the goalkeeper and make it 2-1 for the red-and-black team. Shortly after the goal, left-back Johnny, suffering from shoulder pain, was substituted for Gusttavo. 

Flamengo almost equalized in the 33rd minute. After a cross into the box, the Bangu defense tried to clear the ball, which fell to Joshua, who turned and shot towards goal. Bruno stretched out to parry the shot, and the ball still hit the post. The first half ended with the home team in the lead. 

In the second half, Flamengo returned looking to exchange passes in the attacking third. In the 11th minute, Joshua dribbled past several defenders and was brought down just outside the penalty area. From the resulting free-kick, Pablo's shot went just wide. 

Despite having more possession of the ball, the Flamengo team tried to attack, but when they reached the final third of the field, they ran into Bangu's defense and had difficulty finishing their plays. In the final minutes, the Flamengo youth team tried one last push to try and equalize, but left the field defeated. 

In the next round, the Flamengo youth team will still be in action in the match against Volta Redonda. The main team is scheduled to return against Vasco on January 21st.
