With Rincón as an example, Fernando adapts to the position
Playing further back under Luxemburgo's command, the midfielder wants to help Flamengo in 2011

Marking ability and good ball passing. That's what coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo believes a player needs to be a good holding midfielder. Therefore, the Flamengo manager sees Fernando, who typically played as a second or even third midfielder, as a good asset to play deeper, protecting the defense.
And the player believes he can adapt to his new role and help Flamengo in this 2011 season. His first test was in the friendly against Londrina, last Sunday (09.01), and he believes he did well. Inspired by Rincón, an example cited by Luxa, Fernando believes he can succeed in this position.
"I played more as a holding midfielder. Even Professor Luxemburgo said I could play like that, marking and helping with the ball out, like Rincón did. I think I did well for the first game of the season," he said.
The midfielder, however, keeps his feet on the ground and says that his desire is to work – and work hard – to continue as an important part of the red-black squad.
"Of course, there's still a lot of room for improvement. The year is just beginning and we have to be very calm, train hard, work hard, sweat hard, so we can do what's expected of us on the field," he concluded.
