Flamengo regained victory this Sunday, defeating Sport in the 24th round of the Brazilian Championship at Ilha do Urubu, 2-0, with goals scored by Guerrero in the ninth minute of the first half and Everton Ribeiro in the dying minutes of the match in the 47th minute of the second half. With the result, Flamengo reached 38 points, in 5th place in the standings. Their next match will be in the Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana on Wednesday, also at Ilha do Urubu, against Chapecoense at 19:15 pm. In the Brazilian Championship, the team plays again on Saturday, against Avaí, also at home, at 19 pm.

With three competitions running concurrently, coach Reinaldo Rueda opted to make changes to the starting lineup. Alex Muralha was chosen in goal to gain rhythm for the Copa do Brasil final. Márcio Araújo returned to form as the defensive midfield duo with Wilian Arão, while Diego and Everton Ribeiro created the plays. 

Flamengo started the game determined to show who was in charge on the island. With more possession and aggression, the "Mais Querido" (Flamengo) was also effective up front. Just nine minutes in, Everton Ribeiro made a great play down the left, passing the ball to Trauco, who fired it in. Goalkeeper Magrão rebounded the ball, and it fell to Guerrero, who simply tapped it into the net to open the scoring. 

After the goal, there was no letup. The team continued pressing, pressing Sport in their own half. Through triangulations, quick plays, and effective use of the wings, Flamengo created several opportunities to extend their lead. In the 26th minute, Gabriel took a shot that went just wide. Ten minutes later, Diego took a shot from distance, but Magrão, well-positioned, saved. The first half ended with Flamengo dominating, but with the narrowest of margins in the victory.

The second half began as the first ended, with Mengão on top. Five minutes in, Diego had a good chance, but Magrão saved again. Five minutes later, Everton Ribeiro nearly scored a great goal with a first-time shot from the edge of the box. The ball just missed. 

Without facing any threat, Flamengo controlled the match and let the clock tick down. With one more goal after Patrick's red card, the task was made easier. Rueda brought on Berrío for Arão to exploit the counterattack, but the pace was largely based on passing and the ball spinning around the field. In the 35th minute, Pará took a shot from distance, but the ball went just wide of the goal. In the 39th minute, Lucas Paquetá came on for Diego, and in the final play, with Sport already beaten, Berrío ran down the right and crossed perfectly for Everton Ribeiro, who finished, giving the match its final score.
