The U-23 World Cup came at a great time, both for the players, who want to prove themselves, and for the coaching staff, which can scout talent for the first team. That's the opinion of Flamengo coach Silas, who watched the match between Flamengo and Fluminense, valid for the first round of the competition, last Sunday (September 19.09).

The duel took place in Caxias, hours before the match between the two teams kicked off at the Engenhão stadium in the Brasileirão derby. On the way from the hotel to the stadium, the coach watched the game and was pleased with what he saw.

"We followed the game. Camacho scored a beautiful goal, then Borja scored. All of this is good for us and good for them. This competition came at just the right time, as it gives players who haven't been playing an opportunity to show their worth and gain rhythm in case we need them," he said.

Colombian Cristian Borja, who scored the second goal for Flamengo in the 2-0 victory over Tricolor, celebrated the fact that he had scored for the first time wearing a Flamengo shirt.

"The attack has now started scoring goals. Diego Maurício scored for the first team in the last game, and now it's my turn. It's very important for me," he concluded.

Flamengo will play again for the under-23s next weekend, on Saturday (25.09), against Palmeiras.
