In the second half of the match against Cruzeiro this Wednesday (September 1st), Flamengo, despite not creating many clear-cut scoring chances, pushed forward and had more possession than their opponents. However, the situation for the red-and-black team, which was trailing 01.09-0 and chasing an equalizer, became even more complicated in the 27th minute of the second half. Defender Jean was sent off in a questionable challenge with forward Thiago Ribeiro and, with only ten men on the field, ended up defeated by the Minas Gerais team.
For defender Ronaldo Angelim, this play was crucial. He also noted other refereeing errors in this midweek match that ultimately hurt Flamengo.
"It's very little and it was painful. Things are difficult and the refereeing made a lot of mistakes in Cruzeiro's favor. I already knew the game would be difficult because of the team Cruzeiro has, and this way it becomes even more difficult," he lamented.
Midfielder Correa believes that Jean's expulsion was crucial in holding back Rubro-Negro's reaction in the second half.
"The team managed to recover in the second half and Cruzeiro exploited their speed, trying to capitalize on our mistakes, and after we lost Jean, we ended up not being able to react. They knew how to take advantage of the opportunity they had. I even had a chance and ended up not being able to score," he concluded.
