Patricia Amorim explained the reason for Friday's layoffs and spoke about the future
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - in
President Patricia Amorim had a busy Friday (23.04). In charge of Flamengo since the beginning of the year, she had to intervene for the first time in professional football and ended up removing coach Andrade from his position and firing vice-president of football Marcos Braz and director Eduardo Manhães.
Concerned about giving due consideration to everyone involved in the change in leadership of the Football Department, the director spoke with Andrade, Braz, and Manhães. She communicated her decision and then went to speak with the players at Ninho do Urubu.
Afterward, with everything clearly explained, Patricia spoke to reporters. In a press conference, she discussed the layoffs, possible appointments, and the future of Flamengo's football. Watch the full interview below.
Talk
It was important to speak with everyone involved first. Besides them, I thought I should come here and speak with the players. It's been a confusing two days, with many decisions, but we decided to make this decision to preserve the institution's image. This goes beyond achieving positive results. We want to restore harmony, create a healthier environment so everyone can work well. Flamengo has paid its salaries on time, all taxes paid, and I believe we're fulfilling our role. I wasn't feeling this calm in football, only in the administrative area. It reached a point where I needed to make a decision, an action, to restore that calm. This environment is conducive to positive results.
Respect
Everyone who left today walked through Flamengo's front door. That's why I waited a little longer to announce their departure. They were champions in 2009, gave us a Brazilian title after 17 years, and got us through to the round of XNUMX of the Libertadores. Andrade, for example, is leaving on top. He's a huge figure at the club, and I can only thank him for everything. I was the one who kept him at the club at the beginning of the year.
Coexistence
It was a difficult departure. I have a great relationship with everyone at the club, but I also needed to respond to the political group that elected me president. I didn't get here alone. I'm not a coward at all, and I waited for the right time to make this decision. It will be a smooth transition. I'm sure Flamengo will have joy again.
No hard line
We're not radically changing anything. No one here believes that a hard line will yield any positive results. We want to revive a working methodology that works. It's a cohesive approach, with people committed to this mindset. I hadn't been able to do that here, in football. Good results can sometimes mask some mistakes. Above all, we have to preserve the institution.
Courage
I'd rather be blamed for taking action than for not having the courage to do so. If we don't get a positive result against Corinthians, which I don't believe in, we'd be criticized anyway. Change or not. So, I'd rather bear the brunt of the blame for having taken that action. The situation couldn't continue as it was.
No names
We didn't take anyone out to put someone in. There were no substitutions. We wanted to start making changes. The squad is very good, and the results can be better. That's what we want. A better environment for better performance.
Command
Perhaps there was a lack of leadership. When you have strong leadership, problems are overcome. I wasn't comfortable with the way Flamengo's football was being played. I want to feel comfortable. It's important that the new coach arrives with the willingness to maintain everything that's been said here. We want someone who puts all of this into practice. Nothing can compromise the group.
Ideal coach
Sometimes we have an ideal coach, but we don't have the financial means to hire him. We'll stick to our budget and won't do anything crazy. We're working with four names, and I hope to make that announcement tomorrow.
Unhurried
I don't work under pressure. I'm committed to handing the club over at the end of my term in better shape than I found it. Regardless of the results, I promised this to the members and fans. They can be sure of one thing: they're getting a well-managed Flamengo.
Thank
I was very grateful to the group that left. I told the players that they should try to thank them with results. Those who loved them so much can repay everything they did with victories. Everyone who participated in assembling this group will be credited with any achievements we make. They will always be praised. The important thing is for Flamengo to always win.
Zico
The first person I approached was Zico. For everything he represents, he deserves this treatment. We said we'd like him to join Flamengo, but that's not in his plans for now. He knows that whenever he wants, the doors are always open.
Leonardo
Leonardo is a very interesting candidate. Not for a coach, but for the role of CEO. He has experience and could be a good fit. I hadn't considered him, but I liked it when I saw it in the newspapers. Who knows?! The important thing is to make it clear that we're looking for a vice president of football to handle policy, to bridge the department with the presidency, and an executive director to handle more of the technical side. We want problems to be solved there. They can't reach the presidency, and that was happening.
