Conmebol draws Copa Sudamericana matches this Tuesday (12)
Rubro-Negro goes in search of its first title in the competition
By John Pedro Ribeiro* - inNext Tuesday (12), Conmebol, the highest authority in South American football, will draw the matches for the Copa Sudamericana, equivalent to the Mercosur Cup, a traditional continental competition in the second half of the year. This year, the fifteenth edition of the football tournament will be held, featuring 47 clubs. Without having played in the Cup since 2011, the Mais Querido will be looking for the unprecedented title.
Scheduled to begin in early August, the Copa Sulamericana is revealing its first participants. Among the Brazilian teams, only four are confirmed. They are: Santa Cruz, champion of the Copa do Nordeste; Cuiabá, winner of the Copa Verde in the last edition; Sport and Flamengo, both eliminated from the Copa do Brasil before the round of 2015. Four spots remain, reserved for the best teams from the XNUMX Brazilian Championship who are eliminated in the Copa do Brasil.

In November 2011, CONMEBOL and the representatives of the participating confederations decided to open eight more spots for the 8 edition. The countries that until then had only three spots now have four representatives from this edition onwards, with the exception of Argentina and Brazil (six and eight spots respectively).
