The defensive midfielder position is perhaps the one with the most options in the current Flamengo squad. Therefore, every chance to be a starter is important to impress the coach and try to secure a place among the starting eleven. Defensive midfielder Correa, for example, seemed to have impressed in Thursday's match against Atlético-GO and will be retained by Vanderlei Luxemburgo for Sunday's game against Avaí.
The defensive midfielder is happy with the current situation and believes it's time to not let vanity get in the way and to do everything for the good of the team. According to him, this is a time for unity to face the difficulties of the championship. After all, playing against the team from Santa Catarina, at Ressacada stadium, is not easy.
"It's another tough match, away from home, against a direct rival with a well-organized team that will be a real challenge. But this is a good moment in the championship. It's the time when players like to play and when they have to show their football skills to help the team," he said.
After the show of affection from the fans in Volta Redonda midweek, Correa expects another large Flamengo crowd, even away from home, to push the team to victory.
"Flamengo's fans are something else, and everyone knows that. Whether in Rio or elsewhere, when we can count on our 12th player, in harmony with the team, we grow a lot. We saw that in Volta Redonda and now we hope for the fans' support in Santa Catarina so we can try to come back with the three points," he concluded.
Carlos Rodrigo Correa, 29 years old, has already played 18 games for Flamengo, 16 of them as a starter.
